Thirty (30) pounds to lose - at what price?
(via Diet-Blog)
Business site Bankrate compares the cost of losing 30 lbs (13.5 kg) using 5 major weight loss programs.
Jenny Craig - Total cost: $49, $199 and $399 with a payment plan or $358 upfront, not including food, which generally costs $11 to $17 per day, or $77 to $119 per week. No additional fees/food costs.
LA Weightloss - Total cost: Calculating the cost with a setup fee of $174 and $7 per week charge, the total cost of the plan is $685 for 73 weeks, not including the cost of food and LA Lite bars; initial cost online $219.
NutriSystem - The 28-day program includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks (you can add fresh vegetables, fruit and dairy). It’s cheaper to sign up for the Auto-Delivery Savings program (the food keeps coming until you cancel it), which costs $293.72, including shipping, per month. You can eat only what they send, plus fresh fruits and veggies and dairy (low-fat).
Weight Watchers - Registration is between $15 and $20, and weekly meeting fees range from $9.99 to $13.99, depending on location (WW is a franchise). The standard monthly plan for Weight Watchers Online costs $46.90 the first month and $16.95 each month thereafter. The total cost is between $214.80 and $299.80, depending on location, or $97.75 online, not including food (You must buy your own groceries or track what you’re eating out, but you can pretty much eat anything if you go with the Points program, or can choose the carb-restricted diet that provides lists of foods and how much of each you can eat).
The Zone Diet - This diet is only available in certain locations. Outside of Canada, it’s pretty much focused around the Los Angeles and New York City areas. There are plans to open up 10 new “Kitchens” across the USA soon. The diet is based on a 40:30:30 ratio of daily calories obtained from carbohydrates, proteins and favorable fats. While you can buy a book and follow the diet independently, celebrities are opting for “In The Zone Delivery”. The service delivers a customized daily supply of food (three meals and two snacks) by 6 a.m. each day. Signing up for the 30-day plan will cost $39.99 per day. If you just want to try it out for two weeks, you’ll be paying $44.99 per day.
(Of course, no mention of SparkPeople - which is FREE!)
It’s ridiculous. As I have said before - whatever happened to “Eat Less, Move More”? ;)

So far, in the month after having had my gallbladder out, I’ve lost 10lbs and I’ve eaten pretty much whatever I wanted, which hasn’t been a whole lot. Now, I haven’t got the bill yet from the surgery, so I can’t say how the price compares… :P
But it does subscribe to the eat less, move more philosophy.
okay. it is me i know it. but why is the blue box in the middle of your page. i can’t read anything of yours because of it.
I really enjoyed reading your article!
