Good Morning America - Woman Loses 500 lbs. Using the Internet
Nancy Makin said that she locked herself up in her home for 12 years. She says the weight came on “one cheeseburger at a time”.
She said she found her way though the internet - where people didn’t judge her by her appearance. Her 9 year old son came to her and said that he was afraid he’s come home one day and find her dead - and that was her biggest fear.
She doesn’t regret the years lost, but rather the fact that she hurt her son.
I’d love to know what site this woman used, what she did.
“People think that losing weight is the key. It’s not. Finding happiness is what important, the weight will come off on it’s own.”
I’m a little disappointed in the interview… it didn’t say much about her. So I did some digging myself online. Here’s what I found:
(FYI - these all pretty much say the same exact thing…)
WOODtv.com
Diet Blog
MSNBC
KWWL
WRCB TV
KDSK Channel 5
Here’s a letter Nancy wrote, that aired on the Oprah Winfrey show. You can see a clip of Nancy’s episode on Oprah here.

I am an overweight woman also. I know a man who is fat as Nancy at [site name removed - please don’t leave comments for the sole purpose of trying to market this site, cutebig]. Thanks for posting this blog and share it with us.
Hi Lara,
I’d also be interested to know if she joined an online weight loss support forum. I can believe it that the internet helped her because it’s helped me….the support forum I’m a part of is invaluable. Thanks for posting this! :)
Hi JoLynn - Apparently it wasn’t a weight loss forum, it appears that it was something political. But rather the acceptance she gained with the anonymity of the internet made her feel better about herself to the point where she was focusing more on doing something that made her feel good OTHER than eating. :)
