Gall Bladder Issues…?

Okay, so after a visit to my doctor (finally, a real doctor, not a nurse, not a PA, a doctor) it appears as though he too thinks that my problems of late are spurned by my gall bladder.

He’s scheduled an ultrasound on my gall bladder, pancreas, and other parts of my abdomen for next Thursday the 21st.

My weight has fluctuated more in the past 7 days than ever I think… 255 - 260 - 252 - 254… it’s insanity, and can only be attributed to the changes in bloating and everything else going on with my body.

The doc got all into me about “greasy or fatty foods” - I admit I was somewhat offended, but how the hell was he supposed to know, looking at my 250-something pound body, right? It’s second nature for us, especially those in the medical field (and in this case, those in the medical field who have been harping on us for YEARS to lose weight when we haven’t) to see an overweight person and assume they eat nothing but McDonald’s four times a day. I told him how I’ve been trying, and while it’s been slow, it’s happening. I told him how the only time I ever eat anything greasy or fatty is when I eat out or get takeout - and that’s not more than maybe once a week. And even then I try to make better choices…

I’ve been told, under the strictest of doctor’s orders, to heavily limit my fat intake. Not just in terms of lower fat milk (I already drink 2%) and fat-free cheese (done). But everywhere a human possibly can. And for a minimum of 1 day, up to 3 days prior to the ultrasound? A totally FAT FREE diet.

So… after the appointment, I went and had my last ever fast food cheeseburger (skipped the fries, aren’t you proud?) and that’s it. I even got Simply Smart milk - fat free, but it really does taste like 2% (I’ve had it at my mom’s).

I’ve got some big ziploc containers, and lots of fruit and veggies to make salads and put them in the boxes to have them ready to go. I can’t not have the light dressing, but I just won’t have it for a few days before the ultrasound. He didn’t say NO fat ever again, just a serious, SERIOUS cutback.

Part of me hopes to have the damn thing out so I can eat an effin’ french fry once in a while. I don’t do well on diets when I’m restricted that much!

  1. *hugs*

I’m still waiting to see a GI Specialist since the surgeon won’t take out my gall bladder. Fortunately, I’ve been given a prescription of Prevacid which helps with the acid reflux which was my biggest complaint.

Hey, we’ll get through this together! :)

  2. Poor Lara. :( Hope they figure out what is wrong soon. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

  3. I had the same problem when I was only 15 years old. IT is very rare for someone my age. I was not even overweight!! The doctor told me the same thing, “You need to go on a completely NO FAT diet until we can remove your gall bladder at the end of the year.” It was horrible. I ate only white rice, salad’s and fruit for an entire year. However, the pain would still come back every once in a while.

I later found an article that gall stones do not form from excessive fat. It said they formed from excessive refined carbohydrates. To me that made more sense. When I was in high school my lunch consisted of chips (mainly hot cheetos) and junk food everyday.
You might want to research this, but I would recommend a low refined carb diet. You will save yourself a lot of pain and have a larger variety of food to choose from. I wish I would have found that article back then. I feel your pain and I hope all goes well. Make sure to do your research though. Go to reputable medical sites like Web MD or the millions out there.
