The Biggest Loser 3 - Episode 11 Recap (With Kids!)

Kids. Schools. TBL winner Matt Hoover.

The kids have NO idea what an eggplant is. Or asparagus. One kid thinks asparagus is a turnip. *sigh*

One girl wants to do it to get a boyfriend. Another kid wants to get on varsity. One wants to be an athelete period. One girl wants to just fit in.

Man… this one hurts.

Bob, Matt, and Kim are going to raid the cafeterias, the gyms, and do hard core workouts with these kids.

Okay, all kidding aside. I’m so madly in love with this show more than ever. More on that later.

“The one place you should be able to trust your child’s overall health is when they’re at school.”
“1 in 5 schools now offer fast food.”
“Lewis Palmer High will serve over 400,000 french fries this year.”

Damn.

Kim goes to Lewis Palmer High, her alma mater. The kids were really excited, and not just to get out of class. They don’t believe her when she tells them that their parents have a higher life expectancy than they do.

Matt goes to Belle Plaine High. He looks a little chunkier than before… :(
He’s talking about schools dropping their PE programs, and telling them not to quit (like he did). He introduces Bob, and the kids start chanting “Bob Harper! Bob Harper!”

He tells them to simply cut out soda, and they’ll lose a pound a week.

Kim, then Bob, bring 5 kids up. Watching these kids talk about how they felt really hit close to home for me. I remember, 12…13…14…15 years ago, feeling this same way. (Except for the fact that the homecoming queen was large enough to be chosen to do the show… that would’ve NEVER happened in my school.)

They interject a few things about people from the ranch, people from The Biggest Loser Club Online, and people from the @ Home group. I give them credit, they’re really focusing on the real people thing, and how people are doing this at home, without trainers and nutritionists, and really motivating people.

Kim’s group - she’s got them exercising, doing 100 jumping jacks to start, then running in place. She says that since they’re in high school, she’s got to keep it from getting boring.

Bob checks their endurance around the outdoor track, and then gets them inside working out.

The kids are happy they get the chance to do this now, when they’re young. One girl has diabetes in her family, the homecoming queen wants to use her title and her experience to encourage her classmates.

They love their workouts - that’s too cool!

Bob’s setting goals. He wants them to be able to run the track 10 times, and sit on the wall for 2 minutes. (Squats, but with your back against the wall.)

Kim wants them doing a squat/lunge routine and 3x around the track.

And on the commercial break? Oh yes, we have a McDonald’s Snack Wrap commercial. WTF!?!

Bob goes into the cafeteria. Making fun of them hiding the pizza. He says he’s not seeing vegetables. She points at a tray of tater tots. LOL She also shows the donuts and cinnamon rolls. She then says, “We have to make money.” OMG.

Bob says, “There was nothing I was going to eat there.”

Apparently they decide to go with whole wheat pizza crust and turkey pepperoni. Good start, but…

Kim takes the kids to the cafeteria, and can’t believe what these kids would normally get. Hamburgers, pizza, fries, etc. She says that the refrigerator has healthy options, but they don’t sell.

She shows them what she packed for herself. Turkey wrap, snack size bag of grapes, almonds, and FF/SF Jell-O pudding.

Bob freaks when he sees what the kids get. Chocolate milk has to go. One girl goes up to a la carte, she gets the “cheesy potato rounds with ranch dressing” - ew. She reluctantly agrees she won’t get them anymore.

They check in on the kids without the trainers. They’re not doing so hot at first, but these kids are determined… they’re really committed to this, and it’s paying off for them.

Three weeks later they go and check up on the kids.

She gets the kids running the track, because the first time, they couldn’t make it around once. They all make it, and then some, and they’re losing weight, about 10 pounds each. Not bad for 3 weeks in the beginning!

Matt checks in on the kids, wants them to do 10 laps, or 2.5 miles. One kid lost 25 pounds in three weeks. The homecoming queen is loving her 10 lb. loss. They bonded, it was so clear, and wonderful to see.

Kim and Matt have a surprise for the kids, since they did so well. They brought them a Jackie Chan fitness mat, it’s interactive, and pretty cool. XaviX - the company who made it, has donated $15K to each school’s PE department.

Back to the ranch…

First, we recap once again from the beginning. They focused on my girl Jen and how she was kicked off first, but went home to kick butt. WAY TO GO, JEN! :)

The beach, then Tiffany went home. She did well at home, with two kids to take care of on her own.

The cruise, then Nelson went home. Way horrible, but he looked amazing.

Red team takes out their frustrations on Kim, and blue team sent Melinda home.

The gym’s closed. Trainers had to improvise, Bob had them moving furniture. Red team won again, Amy goes home. She kicked butt though, and looked amazing on the update.

Blue team lost the temptation and without a trainer for the week, they won the weigh in. Red team sent Ken home. At 43, he said he felt like he was 25.

Teams - Brian and Pam went home. Both did amazing at home.

At Home players return, Jaron and Adrian were in. Heather gained 4 lbs to get rid of Bobby, knowing her alliances would keep her there.

Marty went home, down 140 lbs at the time of the update.

Erik is the last standing member of the blue team, and we recap Adrian’s whining. She got sent home. Thank GOD.

This is it - one last week at the ranch before they all go home for 3 months (which in TV time means a week, since the finale is next week.)

Then we recap all the current players before they get to the ranch.

And up through to make it current. They showed Jaron and Adrian, and talked about the challenges to friendship and teamwork.

Okay, ENOUGH ALREADY. I’ve watched this every single week for 10 shows now. I know all this! LOL

They’re working out hard this week. Pushups over skateboards, lifting 400 lbs with their legs, you name it. LOL Erik’s pushing and pulling Bob, who’s sitting on a handtruck, up and down the hill. LOL Erik’s running at one point, and you see Bob holding his fists up in a “champ” pose yelling, “Erik is RUNNING! YES!”

Heather’s whining - says she’s frustrated with Kim, and doesn’t feel she’s putting in enough time trying to give her workouts for her left leg troubles. Kim doesn’t think she’s doing her best, Heather’s pissed thinking Kim feels she’s lying. Kim grabs Kai, and starts talking about the girls, and needing them to keep up. Kai worries she’s not good enough. Kim tells her she could take it all, and that she’s changed her life. Kai’s crying, and talks about how she can’t imagine how she’ll feel knowing she finished something out, and that she was “finally good enough”.

Bob took Erik on the same hike they went on the very first day, the one where he fell to the ground trying to catch his breath. Bob gets up on his back again while he’s in the “up” part of a push up. Bob tells him that Erik inspires him. I’m teary. Erik’s 112 lbs. lighter, and I’m tearing up over this. GO NEW YORK! WHOO! LOL

Train the Trainers Day

They’re beating the hell out of the trainers, it’s funny. Kim says, “Maybe we should walk on our hands across the field.” Kim starts, and then Bob starts doing backflips, and then Kim does them… FASTER. LOL

Matt and Suzy show up at the ranch. Matt’s definitely gained weight back. They show how he proposed to her on the Today Show. OMG All I see is her talking all babyish - they’re focusing on her face. I want to puke. ARGH I hate her!!!

It was cool that they came to the ranch to talk to everyone though - he talked about how he went back up, and he’s started to come back down, once he realized that this is something he’s going to do for the rest of his life.

Final Challenge - The Triathalon

Do they always swim first in triathalons? Seems to me the chafing and stuff would really suck on the bike and the run…

Wylie was struggling on the swim. Big time. And then the four others actually stopped and waited for him, so they could do it together. WOW. Like, totally… WOW.

On the bike run, Kim waited for Heather.

They all make it through the biking together. Then they run. Heather pulled out a power walk from hell. Kai was jogging and Kim was slightly ahead encouraging them. Everyone basically finished together… it was really cool.

Everyone hugs Caroline, even though they’re all soaking wet… it was cute, actually.

Erik meets with the doctor again. He says there’s some really good news. Erik was insulin resistant, and is now, his body is perfectly sensitive to insulin. He is not a diabetic, he never had to take medicine, or anything. His weight loss has really helped with his health. Erik got teary, with good reason.

Last Chance Workout

Kim’s pushing everyone, and Jaron. Bob’s got Erik killing himself… it’s amazing. Kai and Heather - as much as I hate them - really do look good, working out or not. Wylie does too, but not much different than last week. This is the first week I noticed that Erik’s double chin has greatly reduced in size, sometimes it’s non-existent.

The Weigh In

Elimination will proceed as usual this time…

Heather - 167 (-7) woah. 4.02%
Jaron - 217 (-6) “it’s good” 2.69%
Wylie - 217 (-7) “that’s amazing” - 3.13%
Erik - commercial break shows us Wylie with an “O” face and huge eyes… - 283!! (-12) OMG I’m gonna cry.
He’s lost 124 lbs since he arrived. 4.07%
Kai - She’s got to lose 5 to push Wylie below, and she’s teary about getting on the scale. 185 (-4) 2.12% She and Jaron are below the yellow line.

Wylie, Heather, and Erik are guaranteed to be in the final 4. We see Kai and Jaron hugging.

This will be such an interesting elimination!

Eliminations

Wylie - choosing a fierce competitor, Jaron.
Erik - loyalty and friendship, chooses Jaron.
Heather - need we see? No.

Jaron says that he loves the fact that their votes went for loyalty. He hugs everyone and leaves with a smile. Good sport!

Kai’s in for the final four.

Now we get to see them go home. This is always teary for me too!

“Winner gets $250,000, go enjoy your lives until then!” says Caroline.

The members get to meet with the trainers one last time, and face their former selves. Kim shows her a cardboard cutout of her at 262. Kai cracked up laughing. Kim made her stand next to it, and she went behind it and we couldn’t even see her.

Wylie meets with her, and he thanks the hell out of her. She shows him “one last person to say goodbye to” and he says he looked sad, “Who is that person?”

Heather - how horrible did she look? She was totally uncomfortable looking at it. Kim tells her she’s really proud of her.

Erik. Here we go. I’m gonna cry. Damn you, Bob. “You are a man who is in control of his life again.” *sniff* “Don’t ever forget this old friend of yours, okay?” as he shows him the cutout. Erik walks up to stand beside it, and can’t believe it. He’s crying hard… Bob says when he met that man, he knew he needed to be here. “You’re right, you said you were gonna save my life and you did. I see sadness in his eyes, I hated being that big.”

30.47% of his body is GONE. 124 lbs. GONE. No one has ever lost that much at the ranch. OMG I need a tissue!! “You go to New York and KNOCK ‘EM DEAD! DEAD!” I love you Bob Harper!

Everyone goes home, opens doors, and we hear screaming. That’s it? They’re saving it for next week. “Plus, a shocking revelation from one of the contestants,” (insert quick clip of Kai’s head down) and someone kicking a scale. Oh boy… Not another Nick from last season!!

It’s almost over gang… one more show to go! Who do you think’s going to take it home?

  1. My vote goes to Wylie. Erik will be a very close second. I don’t think Kai or Heather have it in them to go the distance. I can’t WAIT for the finals! I can’t wait to see how the at-home folks did either.

  2. I definitely do NOT want Heather to win, although I kind of agree with her that Kim was being a total b*tch about wanting her to do sprints on a bum ankle. I know you hate Kai, but she’s kinda growing on me. Erik has lost the highest percentage of weight so far (over 30% compared to 29% for Kai and Wylie, and 25% for Heather) so he’ll definitely win it unless he totally slacks off at home. Him and Bob had me totally bawling too! And those HS kids…good thing I keep a box of tisues on my coffee table! Wylie has lost a lot of weight too, if he won it I’d be totally happy for him.

  3. Well, as much as I can’t stand, Heather, Kai, Pam, or Adrian (they all really just got on my last nerve, it’s probably a good thing I didn’t make it on the show this year, there’d have been a cat fight or something!) I do have to say that Heather and Kai both seem to have relaxed a little bit.

I still didn’t like Heather’s snarky stunt to get Bobby sent home (I loved him - Mr. Fireman!) and Kai’s sympathy tug with her fear of heights thing just really annoyed me. But it seems that once they both felt a little more confident that they would make it, yet retained a little fear that they might not, they suddenly calmed down. (Except for Heather’s fit against Kim last night…)

I think Erik reminds me a lot of Matt from last season. Not so much in personal history, but in emotion. They’re both really sweet and sensitive guys, and at this point in the show, they both realized how much they deserved to be healthy, and they both knew they had to bust butt to win.

Wylie might pull it off, but only because Erik had a lot farther to go. But if he got home and kept pulling off double digits, Erik’s going to take it home I think. Wylie’s losses were slowing down, because he didn’t have as much to lose.

I swear that kicking the scale thing was Kai - and I can’t help but have a teeny part of me hope she gave up like Nick did last year. *wicked snicker*

That’s so wrong of me to say, I know… LOL

I just can’t see a woman taking it this year either. It’s interesting that there are 2 of each, but I just don’t see either one of them pulling it off.

I’m still rooting for Jen on the 2nd prize, IF they even do that again this year… who knows, since there’s all the @ homers and the online club involved.

Oh, how I wish somehow I could’ve scored tickets to the finale! I think after being a “runner up” for 2 years in a row, I’ve earned them! LOL

Thanks for your comments girls - keep ‘em comin! :)

  4. I’m so excited!! Just a few more hours!

  5. I also vote for Wylie.

  6. Not an advocate of this show… This is not a healthy way to lose weight and its not a good message to send to overweight people. Getting healthy is long slow process, not a race.

  7. I agree, losing weight fast can do a lot of damage for ones health and can really mess up the methabolism.
