Okay, so all comments have been deleted, and I'm closing them off at this point.

I'll be creating a comment policy now, thanks to a few unfortunate souls who felt the need to use profanity and insults to try to attack me for my opinions, on *gasp* MY blog.

For the rest of you, who haven't been here but want to say something, let me first give you this:

1. I know that not all marijuana smokers are "street wise gang kids". It was a rip on the way the media and film portrays casual drug users.

2. I have many friends who have smoked pot, or still do. The bottom line with those friends is that as long as they're not hurting anyone (ie. staying home or what have you) and it's not affecting their lives or their children, I couldn't care less what they do. The only reason I would care is if it was going to have a permanent affect on a life. Period.

3. I'm not some bible-thumping, ignorant chick. I've been a lot of places and seen (and done) a lot of things. I've watched friends go from smoking marijuana to trying harder drugs, and then falling into seizures and mini-comas because of it. If those experiences make me "naive", I'm sorry, but you need to recheck the definition of the word.

4. In regards to the profanity - I'm sorry, but even in "real life" a person can choose to walk away from someone who is using profane language and insults to try to win an argument, and therefore my asserting my rights to not accept that here on my blog are perfectly acceptable. I fight negativity every day of my life, and this place is the one place I can actually have 100% control over it - it doesn't belong here, and it won't be tolerated... End. Of. Story.

5. Last, but not least: I'm going to reiterate my whole point, one more time: I don't care so much that he was smoking pot as an individual... What I care about is that whether he likes it or not, he's looked up to. He's a "celebrity" and he asked for that by taking his first swimming lesson and going on to the Olympics. Kids have joined swim teams BECAUSE of him. Kids have dreams that they too can go to the Olympics, win gold medals, and become world-renowned like him, BECAUSE of him. Now they all think it's okay to break the law and smoke some pot, or do God knows what else, and get away with it, if they reach superstar status like he did. Great.

So all that said - I'm sorry that I had to close off comments here to those of you who actually can carry on a discussion with respect and courtesy. Unfortunately, there's that whole bad apple analogy to contend with. Feel free to stick around and comment elsewhere though, if you can do so without resorting to idiot language. :)

Oh, and have a wonderful day!
