Shame On FaceBook

Okay, I understand that blogging is a huge deal. I know, because I own several, that personal weight loss journey blogs are really popular, especially this time of year. But dammit, I’m sick and tired of the scams being run on FaceBook.

Check this out…

Have you seen any of these ads on FaceBook (these aren’t clickable, I took screenshots)?

Here are screenshots of the sites they go to… all claiming to be weight loss blogs (again, no link juice being handed out by me here… just images):

I’m particularly fond of that last one… even I could have done a better job Photoshopping “Ann’s” arms than that!

This thoroughly makes me ill. All three of these sites are hawking Acai Berry juice and Colon Cleanse stuff as the world’s gift to desperate fat people. (Great, now my adsense ads are going to show ads for that crap. I apologize in advance. I do not support these scams.)

People please… don’t fall for it. Don’t believe these things that say these people are real. Don’t believe that drinking fruit juice and crapping yourself is going to make you lose 40 pounds of fat. THINK about it!!

You have FAT on your body. FAT. Under your skin, above your muscle, it’s FAT. Drinking juice will NOT flush FAT off your stomach. Cleansing your colon (while possibly beneficial if suggested and supervised by your doctor) is NOT going to sweep cellulite off your cottage cheese jiggly thighs!

I say we all complain to FaceBook for showing this crap. I mean, using Rachael Ray’s image in a scam like this should be illegal, shouldn’t it? Especially when you click through to the site and Rachael’s nowhere to be seen, or worse, is featured in a sidebar with some sort of “As seen on the Rachael Ray show!” caption? It makes me ill.

Hey, I’m all about making money online. But I’m NOT about doing it in scamming, scandalous, misleading ways. These sites are affiliate sites, created to look like real weight loss blogs, created by people with no shame and no pride. Worse yet that FaceBook is willing to take their money and perpetuate the scams. Shame on FaceBook.

You think the ads are bad on facebook, then check this “how fat are you?” quiz: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?sid=459e86ed380895c337f01642eb22a03d&id=6337657364&ref=s

    Appalling!

I am totally with you on this. It is totally shameful and wrong on so many levels.

@amethystrose – You’re right – that’s disgusting and I can’t believe that someone would find it “funny” to tell someone who could very well be severely underweight that they’re obese. Disgusting.

@BIgGirl – Thank you – I’m just tired of people blowing their money (especially in this economy) when if they’d just get off their butts and stop eating fried twinkies, they could do it.
