I love oatmeal! I add sliced banana to mine while cooking, and top with nut butter. I eat it almost everyday for breakfast :)

I like steel cut oats. The texture is nuttier. It's way different. You just can't imagine the difference until you try it. I saw steel cut oats sold frozen at Costco (and Safeway and Trader Joe's) and decided to just cook it ahead at home. I cook several servings (with water only - no salt or milk) and put it in the fridge. In the morning I take out that mornings serving, add some water and heat it up in the microwave. Easy, fast and YUMMY. Seriously, try steel cut oats at least once. I'd love to know what you think of it.

Great tips on cooking oatmeal quick! I am heading into winter (I live in Sydney, Australia) and warm oats on a cold morning is worth a few extra minutes than cold cereal.

I also read that barley has similar cholesterol lowering qualities as oats. Barley is good in soups and rissotos. If you do a Google search on 'barley cholesterol' lots of articles come up which show how 'barley prevents heart disease by lowering cholesterol'. You'll see what I mean.

Hi Sarah Mae! Yep, it's just as "instant" as instant oatmeal, if not more so (doesn't it take longer to boil water? lol) and much more nutritious and good for you!

Let me know how you turn out with it!
