Happy Thanksgiving! 5 Rules to Eat By
Just decided to recycle this post from last year’s Thanksgiving for this year! A big, warm hug to you all, and remember to be thankful for your friends and family, and the freedom given to us by those fighting for it right now, who cannot be with their families this holiday. Remember that being thankful always somehow manages to get you MORE things to be grateful for!
Okay gang - stuff-yourself-silly day is here! Please don’t get anal retentive about your diets this day. Rather, sit down with friends and family, eat what you want to eat, and move on for God’s sake.
I was reading a post over at Lifehacker on How To Fry a Turkey (Mmmmm, love me some deep fried turkey! Haven’t had it in years (don’t have a fryer) but man, is that stuff ever good!) and found myself irritated by some of the comments about how unhealthy it is.
Here’s my official take on holiday eating:
- Eat what you want, enjoy your family, and know that you’ll not be thirty pounds heavier in the morning.
- When you start feeling guilty about having a slice each of apple AND pumpkin pie, see rule #1.
- When you whine that your tummy’s too full, and you find yourself unbuttoning your jeans, see rule #1, and go for a walk around the block with someone you don’t get a chance to talk to all that often.
- When you wake up from your tryptophan-induced coma, wondering how on earth you could’ve fit that much food in your stomach, and plotting your workout revenge - see rule #1 and convince someone to join you in the madness that is “Black Friday” - but make it a mall, and walk it at least once before you go into a store.
- Do not, under any circumstances, wear anything other than your “fat clothes” the next day (so you’re comfortable), and do not shop for yourself. Clothing stores are OFF LIMITS!! (And always keep in mind, rule #1 - enjoy your family, the food, and the feeling of being thankful for the blessings in your life. :)

Great perspective Lara! I wish more people thought this way! :)
We have to enjoy life - even if we’re overweight! It passes by far too quickly not to enjoy it!
