Cereal Ad “Recall”

notucansam.jpgFruit Loops, Rice Krispies, Apple Jacks… The commercials have been a regular part of kids’ TV time advertising for decades, but no longer.

Kellogg’s is taking it upon themselves to pull ads for cereals that don’t meet specific guidelines for calories, sodium, fat and sugar from the lineup focused at times that kids usually watch television (Think Saturday morning cartoons, etc.) in an effort to vamp up nutritional choice-making.

Rice Krispies with Strawberries will stay, but regular Rice Krispies has too much sodium to make the cut. Frosted Flakes (believe it or not) won’t be cut, but Apple Jacks and Fruit Loops have too much sodium and sugar.

I suppose it’s good news. However I’m not sure how they plan on supplementing sales of these products without showing the commercials. I mean, Tucan Sam is an icon only because of his television persona. Although I can’t say as I’m all that disappointed in losing the Apple Jacks commercials - I wish someone would can that annoying Fruit-flavored Cheerios commercial though… “Happiness runs…” UGH!
