One way to reduce cleaning requirements in the bathroom is to use minimalist style vanities in your bathroom.

There is near to nothing to clean, except a glass (or granite) sink top with another glass (or granite) slab underneath as a storage shelf.

There are only 2 flat surfaces to clean with windex, and this the wettest vanity in the bathroom.

No clutter, you see everything, it's a sink vanity in it's simplest expression.

Many designers currently are creating the simplest vanities and cabinets they possibly can, and this has the real advantage of significantly reducing cleaning in the bathroom.

Awh, thanks! Yes, it will remind me of her! I'd think that diluted vinegar would work wonders on a carpet to remove odors and stuff - maybe just putting it in the water of a steam cleaner if you have one? I'd have to check with the manufacturer on that before I did it I think... Hey, it works great for coffee pots, anyway! ;)

Yes, the hanging squeegee is a great idea! Maybe a suction hook in the corner above the faucet (so I hit my head on it when I turn the shower off - lol) would do nicely.

I'm off to hop around your site for a bit, thanks again for coming over here! :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, I've found a lot of interesting things on your blog and I'm looking forward to looking around further.

That story is great - the smell of vinegar will probably remind you of your Aunt now - neat! Vinegar can be quite pungent but at least it isn't toxic! :) I've never used it on rugs or carpet, will definitely give it a go - I have white carpet - eeek!

Working at home definitely makes things trickier but a schedule (a flexible one) will help.

With the squeegee, if you can find a way to hang it (and a cleaning cloth of some kind) in your shower or in your bathroom all the better - much easier to remember when it is in your face! You can use a suction hook or tie a ribbon around the handle and hook it over the tap.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, Rachel! :)

I need to get myself on a schedule, that's for sure. Working at home makes it easy to let things slide, and since there are lots of things I need to make sure I work into my daily life (exercise, too) then a schedule should be easy.

The squeegee idea is a great one! I'll have to get one of those. My shower has that very smooth, pvc wall to it, so that would be a lifesaver I think!

Vinegar is great - you reminded me of a story one of my aunts told at a family reunion a few years before she passed, that she decided to clean her son's house while he was on vacation, and she used vinegar on the rugs and furniture! She said that the whole house stunk for days (I don't think she diluted it enough) and she was panicking that he would come home before the smell was gone. LOL

I enjoyed this post, and I'll bet you'll enjoy your sparkling clean house! If you keep up with the regular cleaning you will find that you'll never have to "scrub" things ever again, a light clean/touch up/tidy will be all that is required. A little bit regularly is an amazing time saver.

Some things to help you keep on track: keep cleaning stuff handy in your bathroom, etc. A cheap squeegee in the bathroom is perfect for tiled shower walls, mirrors and shower screens (although I see you have a curtain). Keeping things dry in the bathroom will keep mould at bay.

Depending on your cleaning style you may also want to look at using non-commercial cleaners (I find that cleaning daily is impossible with cleaner fumes - and you don't need the strong stuff anyway). Household things like vinegar can do a fab job.

Best of luck!
